-new word highlight feature(each word is highlighted as it is spoken). This feature requires the keyboard to be up to activate, and iOS 4.0 or greater
-ten new voices have been added for download on the Speak it! Store including Arabic, Dutch, Portuguese, Greek, Polish, Russian, and Swedish voices!
-search bar has been added in the saved phrases section
-max voice speed has been increased to 400 words per minute
-delete text button now prompts a confirmation alert
-fixed an issue with the automatic text scrolling while reading
-fixed an issue on iOS 4 device where playback interface would not show when trying to play saved audio files
-Speak it! Store has been updated with a new Restore button, which will re-download your previously downloaded voices in case of data loss
iPad Specific Changes
-fully supports iOS 4.2 when it will be release later this month (including multitasking support, fast users switching, background Text to Speech playback etc)

This is a great app and I can't find any other app that does as well as this one when it comes to listening to fairly lengthy articles. Many thanks to Future Apps for this great app! I am enjoying it greatly and find it quite useful. There are some improvements however that I'll be looking for in future upgrades. Here's what would have had me giving the app 5 stars if it would have had these features from the start: If you are in the middle of a long article and a phone call comes in, the app doesn't pause and allow you to resume listening where you left off! You have to start again at the beginning of the file and listen to the half of the article you already heard. So a "resume" function is sorely needed. -Or if you could see a highlight in the text of what was being spoken, and you could manipulate where to resume from or have a "Rewind/Fast Forward" button so you could scroll through the text to select a point to start listening from, it would be much more practical for large bodies of text. Outputting an audio file and listening on another device that allows you to do those things could be one solution, but you can't make an audio file that's bigger than 1000 words so that's no help with larger files. As it is now, it's better to break long articles up into shorter sections --but that requires a lot of fussing around selecting and copy/pasting things just because there is no "resume" feature. It's definitely worth the 2 bucks since there is no reasonable alternative!

This is a pretty killer package for only 200MB. The built in voices are clear enough and were great choices to include. There's another TtS app that features "DOZENS OF VOICES!", and was cheaper, but, who cares? The voices in this app are clear, have great tonal inflection, and work well with the english language. While there are some fun phonetic tricks you can play, the accuracy is good enough that you don't have too. These last two weeks, my girlfriend and I came down with a viral infection that affected us in slightly different ways. One common occurrence was a throat ailment, that ultimately affected our voices and also made it hurt to talk. When that became apparent, I immediately shopped for apps that would let us easily say what we need said. Speak it! looked simple, and was a great choice. Much of the speech in our household over the last week and a half took place solely over this app. And if it wasn't this app, it was OSX's built in Text-to-Speech. Speak it!'s use was slower (a computer is still easier to type into than an iPad), but it's quality was so much better. The saved sayings feature let me queue up common answers I may face when headed into the Doctor's for my appointment. This app is amazing. It's so unbelievably well put together. I love it and will point anyone and everyone to it needing a Text-to-Speech solution. Thank you.

I'm non-verbal and a male. With this app, there's 5 American female voices but only one male American voice. Plus, all of the female American voices sound a lot better than the one male American voice. Please add more male voices!!! The quality of the voice on the app "neospeech" is a lot better than this one.

This app isn't a bad start for a text to speech app for the Ipad, but the lack of certain basic functions sorely limits it's usability. Since there is no way to mark your place in a text to resume or to begin in the middle of a text, if you stop listening in the middle, you always have to begin over at the beginning. Given the lack of fluidity in the reading, having to start over is painful. The ability to begin reading where you place the cursor in the text and to resume where you stop would be very helpful. Although a couple of the included voices are pleasant enough, the jerky delivery is very distracting and frequently obscures the sense of the text. Add to these issues the 1000 word limit and I have to agree this app is basically a toy, not a serious tool. The free text to speech reader that Microsoft has made available for Microsoft Reader for many years is a far more app although it also lacks fluidity.

I'm non-verbal and this app is great for me, expect for two things. Please add the option of making phone calls with this app so then we can easily communicate over the phone. Currently there are no good options for us with talking on the phone, besides using a TTY which are designed for deaf people. I'm sure that if you can get this app working with the phone without using external speakers, then this app will be a very big deal among those that can't talk. You could easily charge a lot of money for that feature since no other app does that. I also would like to see the list of voices removed from the main page and placed under the settings tab. It's extremely common for me to change the voice on accident without realizing it, and then when I say something, everyone hears a extremely annoying British voice.

I received a Speak It message from a friend. I immediately purchased it for the iPad. I just installed it and for whatever reason I cannot access the settings, help, saved files via the top right selectors. None of them are available to me. Seems rather useless without being able to access the configuration. I guess I will try support and see what they say. For now it is OK but either I or it need work...
