Description

Contacts Tool allows you to export your entire AddressBook or selected records in seven different formats: Binary, TXT, HTML , LDIF (LDAP Data Interchange Format), CSV (comma separated values), MS Windows contacts and vCard.
Exported files can be easily transferred to a PC or Mac via WiFi or 3G/EDGE using a built-in web server or via e-mail.
Files can also be sent directly to another iPhone or iPod via WiFi, 3G/EDGE or Bluetooth. The receiving device must be running Contacts Tool’s web server or Bluetooth server.
Contact Tools can import files in LDIF, CSV, VCF (vCard) and Binary formats.
Main features:
- Transfer the entire AddressBook or just a few records to another iPhone/iPod and import the records on the receiving device.
- Save the entire AddressBook in LDIF or Binary format for backup purposes.
- Print contacts from iPhones/iPods with AirPrint enabled
- Create a HTML file (including contacts photos) for viewing on a web browser.
- Create a text file (without contact photos) for editing or printing on a PC/Mac.
- Since LDIF is supported by a large number of applications, your contacts can be imported by other products currently not supported by iTunes.
- Contacts from PC/Mac applications that support LDIF format can be transferred to an iPhone/iPod.
Custom labels is supported in export/import operations.
Contact Tools also allows you to delete the entire AddressBook or a set of selected records with a single press of a button (plus a confirmation button). A backup file is automatically created during this process. Deleted records can be recovered importing the backup file.
With Contacts Tool you can also manage groups. Groups can be created and deleted. Contacts can be added and removed from groups. Export by group is supported.
You can also perform bulk modification of phone numbers (very handy for travelers). When arriving in another country for instance you can add the international dialing prefix to your phone numbers to be able to phone home. On return the dialing prefix can be removed.

Was searching for a way to *completely* backup my contacts, including the special iPhone labels. That was important to me. A perfect backup. This tool does it. The backups are initially saved on the phone, in files, and you need to do an extra step to save the backup file off the phone. I just email the backup files to myself. Later, you can send the file back, using a couple of methods. Haven't tried it myself, but have tested that the built-in WIFI HTTP web server works and I can upload files, no problem. You may have to be a little bit of a "propeller head" to truly appreciate this application, but if you are, you may well love it. It will also allow you to manage groups. Great response from the author, too. Five stars. (Have asked for matrix view for group management, to know what contacts are in what groups...or are in no groups. I am hopeful.)

Contacts Tool does just what I need to be able to manage contacts and share them. Using the different export formats, I can have a copy of my address book data in a form that I own -- no need to worry if "the cloud" isn't available or if some web-site is hacked. I can also easily share contacts with others.Using the HTML export format, it's easy to have a read-only copy of your contacts that you can access on your computer for searching or what have you, even if you use a PC.

I have never written a review before .. but .. this app is so good I felt other people should be aware. I needed an app that I could take my entire contact list or just certain ones and send them to my friend in a format that my friend could directly import. This program does that several ways .. email, bluetooth, web server. And it manages the contacts and groups even easier than the native contact UI.

I have lost or overwritten my contacts too many times when synching. This allows me to simply email my contacts to myself and then I can print out a copy. Perfect for those who lost the ability to do a backup because of JBing or any other reason. This is the first review I have ever bothered with. Thanks

Get it. You will love it. I am giving 4 stars because it does not include the birthday information in the back up or when sahring with other iPhone or iPod. I will give 5 stars when the birthday info is included.

New Review:I take back the old review. The developer of this app not only fix the crashing problem but has polish this app extremely well. It will become an indispensable tool for backing up contacts that sync via Exchange. The backups store all the contact fields and the photos at full resolution. There are numerous options to store and send the backup via email, http webserver file download or locally on the phone itself.A must have for Google Apps and Gmail users who hate the csv only option for backups because you would lose your contact photo. Bar none, the best contact back up app in the App store.By the way, this is an excellent way to get your contacts onto your exchange account before all of them get wiped when you set up the connection.Old Review (v1.0.0 5/25/2009):Nice functionality but crashes if you have a photo or company name only contact. Developer was very helpful in attempting to resolve the issues but the app needs a few revisions before it can be a reliable backup tool.

I wanted a tool to backup my Exchange contacts from work and save them locally to my iPhone, and this is it! I'm very happy with this app since it saves the info as well as the photos of your contacts - one thing I still need to experiment with is saving the email addresses (my export/import test missed that setting). Thanks for making this useful tool!

I bought this because I wanted a method to back-up my contacts and xExportContacts (my previous program) stopped working for me. This program does that and more. I haven't tried the other features, but the ability to export one's contacts in various different formats is useful and easy to do. Be aware that unless the binary format is used, not all the fields of your contacts will be "backed up". I don't consider myself a propeller head, but do agree that this application tends toward the technical side, but that wasn't a problem for me. I have not researched the competition, as this program seemed to do all that I wanted. Note that one reviewer stated that birthdays were not included in the back-up. He reviewed version 1.0.0 and as far as I can determine this isn't an issue with version 3.1.0

Needed a way to print contacts without loading to Outlook. This App does the trick. It allows exporting the contacts to several different file types. once that is done you just email it to yourself and open it on your computer. Hit print and you are good to go. Great App Thanks.

If u have a mac export using Vcard, email to yourself then import to address book. Works perfect and only takes about 60 seconds.

I left a job with an exchange server which synced my contacts. In order not to lose them, I needed an app to back them up, then restore them back when I turned off my connection to the server. This app restored all of my contacts (from the custom bin format) without a hitch for well over 200 contacts! No errors at all. Thank goodness for this app!
