This really should NOT be called Pages. It's a lite version like Photoshop Elements is to Photoshop. There's a lot of great functionality in this app but 3 critical and 2 serious problems: Critical: 1. Can't modify or create styles: styles are at the heart of the whole Pages idea. There is no way I want to write a 10 page document the old Word way of custom formatting every paragraph. 2. (fixed in 1.1) No tools in landscape mode. Product manager was asleep at the wheel on this one. Landscape is where you're going to type/create content so that's where the tools should be. 3. Can't round trip a document from OS/X version of Pages to ipad and back. If I copy a document I've written on the desktop to the iPad, during "import" I get a popup describing all of the things that were stripped permanently from the document: lists in tables, section #s, table fills, merged tables cells, section breaks... all irrevocably removed. So forget the idea of editing your report on the train into the office on the iPad. You'll need to stick with the laptop. Fixing these three critical issues would make Pages a 5 star app for me. Serious: 1. Can't print. 2. Can't sync documents with my desktop. This is really a generic issue with the iPad. Either the iPad requires a host computer or it doesn't. As it stands, you can't even use the iPad without first activating through iTunes first. If it's dependent on a host, sync with the host. Now every developer is going to solve this problem in their own way. This should be a core service and I hope to see it soon. I love my iPad. It is flatly the coolest gadget I've ever owned. But why-o-why did you take away my folders and filesystem? Then this whole document syncing think could just be a simple 'rsync' solution.

This document is not usable by me until it can handle footnotes. I can't open documents sent to me for comment if I lose the footnotes in the process. Apple spent a lot of time allowing text to flow around images but didn't support a basic function for people who really write. Hopefully, this was something dropped in the rush to get it out the door. Version 1.1 and still no footnotes.

I really like everything about the app. It is simple and works very well for all of my word processing needs. One thing I don't like is in Pages, in between two pages, there simply is one line separator. In Microsoft Word, pages have a real gap in between them and laid out like real sheets of paper. (Print layout) view. Please add a "Print layout" view in pages instead of "Draft view"? Its an amazing app none the less!

I can't open documents directly from the Apple owned MobileMe iDisk account that I setup in my iPad preferences. What? And I can't save my docs there either. Huh? Do you all work for the same company?

Review of this version. Still not able to manage your documents. Not meant for a busy person, a lot of free apps out there. AVOID Review of last version. Not fully compatible = not dependable. U have to tilt the iPad to vertical position to use the pages features and margins as they disappear when the iPad is laid on your lap. This means that every time you want to to change a font or size, or anything, you must tilt your iPad to a horizontal position and work with the smaller keyboard until u tilt it back and use the full size keyboard at which point the options and margins disappear again. If you want to work on another document, u have to tilt your iPad to horizontal again, and touch the "my documents" button which is not available in the landscape mode. Apple gives you a very hard time managing your documents and there are no folder and it is all done through iTunes. DO NOT DOWNLOAD

Beware: Pages may look lovely, but version 1.1 will (still!) strip your footnotes and endnotes from any manuscript you sync. Not cool! Also, it will automatically overwrite (accept) all your tracked changes, which can be very bad if you plan to share manuscripts with other people. These two flaws make the current version dangerous when working with complex manuscripts. Not yet a serious tool.

It's getting better, but I personally still need word and character count, both for the whole document and for a selected section of it. Without it, I can't use it professionally... and I so want to. Please Apple's engineers: add that feature for 1.2

If Pages intends to become a serious text app, it needs serious features. I just transferred an academic paper to read it on a trip and was notified that footnotes were stripped. Not converted to endnotes, or retained inline, but LOST. Needless to say, I won't try this anymore. It's one thing not to be able to create foot/end notes, but read them?? For this I have to use PDFs? An additional ribbon in landscape is fine, but more features are needed on that ribbon. Until then, Pages is for hobbyists only.

The main reason why I purchased this application, instead of continuing to use notes, was for two reasons. The first reason is that you are able to edit word documents in it. The second reason is that you can include images in documents that you are editing. I imported 279 word documents, all of which contain multiple images and I took the time to open every single document and not one of them was imported correctly. Every single document looked much different then how it does on my computer. On each page that contains more than one image in every one of the 279 documents, the images have been automatically stacked on each other instead of being next to each other like they were on my computer. It is sad that the “most beautiful word processor ever designed for a mobile device” cannot import word documents without moving the images on the page. You would think that Apple, the company that sells the Ipad, a product that’s success has a lot to do with the applications available for it, would want to make sure that their applications work properly before making them available in the App store. In a perfect world every App in the app store would be bug free. I realize that is an unreasonable thing to ask for. What I think is something that is completely reasonable to ask for is that all applications made by Apple that are shown off during Steve’s keynote presentation do not have any bugs that are this easy to spot. Please fix this. If you do, you have a five star app. If this application was made by anyone other than Apple, I would have given it three stars, as it is great for creating documents, but I expect more from such a great company.

I do like and use it, but it really needs an easier way to move docs around to other apps, or to email multiple docs. Even more flexibility is needed for spreadsheet.

Installed the newest version of Pages on 5/13 that has the tool bar when in landscape mode. The menu is not available after opening an email attachment. Closing the app, opening a different app, nor deleting the document in Pages will correct this behavior. The only way to clear the opened attachment is to power cycle the iPad.

If this app can somehow share its files with local apps in the iPad (open with menu like the email app?) so that we can use the other apps for printing, then I would say the iPad is complete as a standalone word processor. We can open documents from other apps in Pages now, so... I just want to have the reverse to make printing easier. If there is a way to import fonts to the app, or the iPad to address missing fonts issues when importing from iWork on my Mac, it would be nice, but this feature is not necessary as I can make do with what the iPad has. There is also a bit of a lag moment when switching from landscape to portrait and vice versa, and also a sense of slowness in the interface in general, but it is not of much concern. My thanks to the development team for listening to our feedbacks and responding in a timely and precise manner.

Menu bar now in landscape mode is about the only useful thing. Still no super and subscript. Poor export options. No open in... option so I can easily print and of course no printing. And why can you only edit the header in portrait mode?

When opening a document created on my computer, Pages didn't convert it properly. If you want to create documents from scratch I highly recommend this app.

Good update that adds the formatting toolbar in landscape. But, what is the point of the "ruler"? What a waste of space, it doubles the thinkness of the toolbar for some useless ruler. Please give us the option to turn ruler off. Hoping for these future updates: 1. Option to turn "ruler" off. It's useless and a waste of space in landscape. 2. Folders! I already have several documents and no way to organize them. At least provide some way to categorize them. 3. Text Options (the most used feature on and word processor) is hidden somewhere in the "i" menu button. Who the heck uses "Paragraph Style", I have had several people play with it and all were disappointed because they all thought that text adjustments are done with the limited list on "Paragraph Style" button. Want to change the font, size, or color (most common thing) then you have to go through a couple of menus to do so. Nonsense!! Fix this, remove Paragraph Style and replace with Text Options.
