This is a full fledged turn-based war strategy game! Absolutely wonderful! I grew up playing Age of Mythology and Age of Empires. This game does not have the city-building portion of those real-time war strategy games, but there is almost more strategy in "Battle for Wesnoth" because of it. This game is like a beautiful, complex, and challanging game of chess. Most game apps cannot rival the content and power of a PC or other platform game. "Battle for Wesnoth", however, rivals many PC games! It is worth so much more than 99 cents! I might as well list a couple features I would love to see, although the lack of these should in no way stop you from downloading "Battle for Wesnoth": 1. It would be nice if the screen got darker during the night and brighter during the day. Sometimes I forget to look at what time of day it is on the side menue, and attack during an inoportune moment 2. It would be nice if members of the Wesnoth community could create new campains for the iPad. I know there is a development forum for the computer version of the game, but it would be nice to have an iPad development community. 3. More campains!

This game reminds me a lot of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, which was one of my favorites. It has a great storyline and very addicting "just one more turn" gameplay. Well worth the price.

Latest build fixed my primary gripe with movement interface. Play for a few hours and then read the detailed help to give you the upper hand. Visually pleasing art and intriguing storyline. My wife loves to watch and help me play. Elves are slow in caves. You've been warned.

I don't think I've ever gotten that much out of 99 cents. This is a well designed game at any rate, and even if it was just skirmishes it would be well worth 5$, but the inclusion of so many well designed campaigns and scenarios is just a bonus. If you like Tactics style games, this is a must have. And the ability to carry over units from battle to battle is something I've always wanted.

I know dollars can be hard to come by, so why should you spend it on Battle of Wesnoth? Well, I'm about six hours into it, and I haven't even beat the introductory campaign. There are roughly a dozen campaigns, and this is supposed to be the easiest. This game is an INCREDIBLE value for the money. It is responsive, challenging, and surprisingly in-depth. When I bought my iPad, I was afraid the only games for it would be zit-popping, bird-flinging, totally mindless affairs. Not the case. Wesnoth is not an 'iPad game'. It is a real game on the iPad, and it proves what the iPad can do for gaming.

with the bug fix and the double tap speed improvement, the deepest game experience on iPad is quickly approaching perfection. fix the scrolling speed and Wesnoth will be untouchable.

I am astounded that such a huge game is this inexpensive. There is no reason not to buy this. The gameplay mechanics are fairly deep, and the art is great. The tutorial is especially well designed, with helpful tips appearing right when they matter.

I've been a fan of this game since its early desktop releases, and it is even better on the iPad. The minor quibbles from the first release have been fixed, and this is now easily the best game I have on my iPad - it's what I keep coming back to day after day. My only wish is that it maintained game state when switching apps (It does autosave, so you can return to your last move, so this isn't a big deal at all.) If this follows the trajectory of the desktop release, it should just keep getting better and better.

I'm not a big fan of this genre, but I want to be. The problem with this game is simply the instructions and intro. Neither are intuitive or easy to get into. If I could have easily gotten into some compelling game play I might have been hooked. The lack of straightforward tutorial and the slowness of the ui makes for a very easy pass for me. Recommendation to the developer. Pretend like you are teaching a 5 year old. This way you can get as many new fans of this genre into your experience. Otherwise, you're going to lose most of your new customers to the easier casual games borrowing from this credible genre.

There is such a vast quantity of content for this game, and it really has the potential to shine on the iPad. The touch interface is well suited to a game like this. The scrolling speed around the map is the biggest negative with this version, but it's not a game stopper. The only other suggestion I have is to change the way the movement works for newbies. Double tapping is fine, but it's not immediately intuitive, since so little else on the iPad requires a double tap. Maybe a popup menu of some sort for single taps, like "Go here"...?

I bought this app for the sole purpose of playing with my friends. This is a TURN based game, but if my friend logs out he gets dropped from the game! Why?!? We should be able to spread a game out over weeks. This sort of design is typical of people who see games as a solo activity even while playing with other people. I use games to stay in touch with friends! Further, it disregards a key design element of mobile devices: the game should be interruptible because it WILL be interrupted.

This is the best valued game ever!!! I didn't know that 1 dollar could buy several hundred hours of fun. Needless to say, this game rules. The biggest steal of my life. On any other platform this game would be at least 20 dollars. I would've bought this game for 20 dollars. Nice job developer. If you keep on making apps like this, I'll keep buying.

I am a seasoned SRPG gamer, having played and finished everything from the original Final Fantasy Tactics to Disgaea. Wesnoth is every bit as polished as these games and rivals those in the celebrated Fire Emblem series. Wesnoth provides hundreds of hours of calculated fun for an unimaginable price.

This game was already a favorite of mine on the Mac, but it has been perfected thanks to excellent implementation of touch interface and the relatively large screen of the iPad. Fun gameplay in the single player mode, with many fun campaigns. Multiplayer allows you to play against opponents on any platform the game is available.
