The first step in taking control of your finances is knowing where every dollar is spent. The next step is proactive budgeting so you don’t regret your choices later. MoneyWell is the modern personal finance application based on the time-tested envelope budgeting system. Instead of carrying around wads of cash divided into various expense envelopes, MoneyWell’s fresh twist takes advantage of the convenience of ATMs and debit card purchases and gives fingertip access to virtual envelopes (buckets) so users can make decisions based on their budget, not cash in bank.
MoneyWell was designed for fast data entry so users can capture purchases quickly and easily at the point of sale. After all, what good is a mobile finance app if you don’t want to use it?
MoneyWell on the iPhone works as a standalone application, but it’s even more powerful when used in conjunction with MoneyWell for Mac. Users can synchronize their MoneyWell document between multiple Mac and iOS devices using Dropbox. Sync from anywhere you have an internet connection.
Like the desktop version, MoneyWell for iPhone gives you a bucket list that shows you your available spending money at a glance, so you can make wise spending decisions on the fly.

Above all else, great finance and daily budget apps have to be simple, clean, and easy to use and this app excels in each of these areas by way of its smart UI design. Free of clutter and well developed, Moneywell is an app I'll be happy to pull out to keep my finances current, since adding transactions on the fly is a snap. The addition of fast transaction marking/reconciliation and the ability to make scheduled transactions recurring would only round it what is already a great feature set.

If you have Moneywell for the Mac, Moneywell for the iPhone is a must. Now you can check all of your buckets while on the go and make entries quickly instead of carrying around tons of receipts to enter once you get home. Clean interface, snappy response. The only reason I docked it a star in my review is because syncing over the air would make this app more useful. Other than that, great app, worth the wait.

I started using Moneywell for Mac about seven months ago after trying nearly every piece of financial software for the Mac -- you name it, I tried it; my bar was rather high too, since I'm a long time Quicken user on the PC -- since V1. I can honestly say that I prefer Moneywell over any piece of Mac financial software, and I would even choose Moneywell if offered a PC equivalent of Quicken on the Mac. The support is great too, and the developers are very friendly and will answer your questions. Additionally, it's very stable without the heavy bug problems that afflict a lot of competing software. I'd even say that this software has changed my relationship with money, and has been wonderful during the year I was left unemployed due to a layoff -- great way to really manage tight finances. Anyway, great job Kevin, Ash and the rest of the development team. Hoping to see V2 of Moneywell soon, and the ipad version -- don't take so long this time though!!!!

I've been an active use of Moneywell for Mac for nearly 18 months and it has helped me to stay on top of my finances via reducing debt, using cash, and properly budgeting. Having the iPhone version was a long wait as some other can attest to but in using it so far it's been well worth the wait. The syncing has been seamless, entry of new transactions is easy, and the user interface is straightforward. I really enjoy having the history of expenses as well as pending transactions with me wherever I go. Keeps you honest and this app does the trick. For any current Mac users that have Moneywell this app is a no-brainer. For others that don't pick both up.

MoneyWell for the Mac is an amazing application. I can't speak for people in all financial situations, but I can say that for someone in their early twenties who's comfortable but still needs to budget wisely and squeeze pennies now and again, it's the perfect personal finance application. I've been using MoneyWell for Mac for over a year, and I've been incredibly happy with it from the beginning. The iPhone application is something I've been looking forward to since the beginning, and in even a few minutes of use, it's clear that NoThirst has spent a lot of effort on making an application that's as easy and fun to use as their desktop application, and which looks great to boot. Even if you haven't got the desktop application this is best paired with, I'd still recommend this iPhone app over many desktop personal finance applications that MoneyWell is in competition with.

I've been waiting for this app for months now, and it doesn't disappoint. Very easy to see my balances and how much is in each bucket. The entry screen is well thought out, and it synched perfectly with the desktop app. I've been using MoneyWell for a year or so now, and was the first app that truly allowed me to get control of my finances. If you are not familiar with the bucket or envelope system, I highly recommend you check out the site. Great job!

Wow! I have been holding my breath for the release of this software since I read Kevin's blog about going to the WWDC about two years ago. I must say it was worth the wait, though. I am very impressed with how easy it is to use, but blown away by how easy it is to sync. I didn't need any instructions. I just saw the option in Preferences on my Mac version of Moneywell. I love how you can pull down on your Transactions page to refresh the sync. Very nice touch. Looks like this will make it easier for me to stay on budget while I'm on the go! A couple suggestions: - add a receipt image option to transactions (and make them sync to the Mac software) - add option for recurring transaction entry on the iPhone app Overall, I am loving it! It's the only financial software on the iPhone I've paid for.

MoneyWell for the Mac is definitely my favorite personal finance app on the desktop - and yes, I have been through Quicken, Mint, iBank, MoneyDance, etc, etc, - MoneyWell just works! Plus the developers are responsive and constantly improving and refining it. Now with the MoneyWell companion app for the iPhone my personal finance management goes mobile. No more excuses for not keeping my accounts up to date! The download, install and sync with my desktop MoneyWell file was fast and flawless. The transaction entry from any screen is great and pull-to-sync feature, also from any screen, is very cool. It is so nice not to have to leave your place just to sync!! Well done No Thirst team, well done!

This app does exactly what I hoped it would which is fairly unusual for a first release. Very polished and crisp on the retina display not to mention I can finally keep track of my money on the go. I was also pleasantly surprised with the background syncing since I assumed I would have to keep the desktop app running. Anyone who's been waiting to try MoneyWell has no excuse. I've been using it for nearly a year now and it's done a wonderful job keeping me in line. I used to keep separate checking accounts to handle my envelope budgeting. Now I only need one. Nice work No Thirst!

I too was a bit confused on how to get syncing working. Carlos, if you go into preferences in MoneyWell and go to Sync, then select your primary MW database file (it will show up). I may have restarted Moneywell on my Mac. After that, when I start the iPhone app, it will see the Mac just fine. The sync is unnecessarily confusing, but once done, it's over. Very nice app so far. Seems fairly responsive.
