HELP FOR THE FIRST CHAPTER (level 3)
Once you have recruited 8 pioneers, follow these steps to expand the borders:
- Tap the cart with the donkey.
- Tap the “Transform to Migration Cart” icon at the bottom of the screen. The icon is highlighted in purple. You can now put tools, pioneers and carriers into the cart. Make sure you do not forget any of your 8 pioneers. It takes a while for the resources and the pioneers to get to the migration cart, so please be patient.
- Bring the cart to the location your Settlers have found for the new colony.
- Once the cart has arrived at the new location, unload the tools (tap the central icon at the bottom of the screen) and watch your pioneers start expanding the territory.
ADDITIONAL TIPS
- Adding more carriers will help you a lot in the game and will stop any kind of bottlenecks. About 15 carriers should be enough for a medium-sized settlement. Make sure you dont have any idle settlers in the countryside.
- The location of the Smiths is important: if it they arent close enough to an Iron Smelter or Coal Mine, production will slow down. Having a low number of carriers can also stop weapon production if you have any other building projects going on, because those are the carriers main priorities.
- The only way to destroy enemy non-military buildings is by capturing the enemy towers around them. For example, in level 5 of the first chapter, the temple cannot be destroyed by attacking it with your army. You will gain the territory around the towers and, as result, any enemy buildings in your new territory will be destroyed instantly.

	I'm a huge fan of the whole Settlers franchise. (Well, until the recent Settlers 7 DRM debacle, but that's another story). I own Settlers 2, 3, 10th Anniversary and Settlers for the Nintendo DS, the iPhone and now for the iPad. I like the basic gameplay of the iOS versions of Settlers -- they've simplified some things (like you don't need to manually build roads), they've made some things more complex (like you have to train your geologists, and there are now thieves and sulfur mines). The whole "build a complex supply chain and watch it work" of the Settlers series is the most satisfying Ant Farm genre I've ever experienced. My wife and daughter love them too. Now for the "needs polish": - the iPad and iPhone already have some gestures all users are used to using, like for zooming in and out (the pinch). For some reason, the developers ignore this standard, and introduce a slider. Please give us our normal interface. Yes, it's strange writing for a touch screen instead of a mouse. This "mouse-like" interface is very awkward on the iPad. - the degree of zoom is very limited - they should let you zoom out more, and zoom in more. - the graphics here are only barely better than the iPhone version -- this is not truly HD. As an owner of the iPhone version, I feel this is poor value. In particular, the "building progression" graphics are really cheesy: the finished building "scrolls up", instead of builds out like in all the previous Settlers games. - now that we have the screen real estate on the iPad, it would be nice to let folks build roads if they want to. That was one of the main interesting aspects of the previous game. If the developers address any of these issues, I'll revisit my review and adjust.

	One of the worst purchases from gl ever. Graphics are ok, but screens look far better, which is a surprise because usually gl screens are true to life. But the worst part is the game is just down right to hard-borderline unplayable/ but could also be a bug but I doubt it. Mind you I never played the pc version, so it could be on my end, but I honestly doubt it. I tried everything I could think of for over two hrs and still couldn't really get anything going once the the tutorial was over, I'll honestly try to play this game over, and update my rev, but I highly rec C&C over this all day long, as of now this to me is one of gl worst games for the price, and worst of all it will be 99cents in about a month or so, hope this game gets fixed, or atleast some sort of beginner settings, maybe vets can play and know what and what not to build first, but bottom line if your looking for a C&C genre type game this hardly fits the bill, it's 99% micro managing and 1% war/conflict or what ever you want to call it, big time waist of $ for anyone looking for more than a micro management game, this is not a combat game by far.

	Let me start by saying that this is my first review of a game or program on the app store. And i've bought a lot of apps. But after playing this version i had to post a review. This game is one of the few gems that have been ported over from the PC. It looks and feels just the the old PC version did. This game is going to be hard to put down anytime soon. It brings back some wonderful memories. I wish there were more games like this. If you loved the old Settler versions on the PC, then you will not regret this purchase.

	On the third unskippable Roman mission, the game tells you to build 8 pioneers so you can expand your borders. There's a glitch that doesn't allow the pioneers to dig, or expand your borders, instead they just return to your base every time you send them to dig. You can't progress until they do this, and so the game stops being playable at this point. Don't buy this game until gameloft fixes this!! Will increase my star rating when I can actually play the game I spent ten bucks on. Ridiculous.

	Update, ok after playing for about 30hr, I finally get it, really, their could be a bug, but I think the game is just extremely complex. For those of u having trouble, you have to start from the beginning and write everything in green down on paper, the stage with the donkey, their should be an arrow that tells you where to tap, but this is def a fun game, you just really need to pay attention to what to do. Sept4(update) but the game does have a bug, that makes it almost unplayable, the vehicles, like the catapult doesn't always respond, troops, geologist, pioneers, often disappear, or wonder around even though you command them to be in a certain location, and offten even when you have an ample amount of resources, the game will not create or build, it's like some sort of glitch or whatever you want to call it, but the worst thing is to spend 3-4 hr building your army and land, only to lead them into battle and they don't budge, and I had a troop leader for the vets, so it wasn't that, still fun game but buyer be ware! (update) to that pompous reviewer "urzhu" who implied that the reviewers who couldn't get it were idiots to some extent...,well he's right, I don't think bad revs for this game are idiots, I was one of them, but after getting very angry with his/her comment I gave it one last go, so I could be sure the game was garbage, and come back and flame him/her for being a jerk, but low and behold I got it, it's still a incredibly taxing game when it comes to the mechanics for gathering resources and building structors, but it can easily be argued that it's more realistic because of it. And once you get your resources going the game becomes far less tedious, as your resources stabilize and you can start training your army. And for fans of mass scale combat, this is the game for you, tho I lost my first attack, it was with a troop of 70men, so I think I will have to train around 150-200etc on average for any given battle, but like I state later this is not a combat based game, in the genre of C&C, it is an extremely based micro management game, with the combat as an extra bonus, but at the same time it's not like they just threw the combat in at the last minute, as the game would be pointless if you didn't have an army to conquer other armies. But everything is truly about patience in this game, 10min is 10 real min in this game etc. The best tip I can give to any new player that I learned, is build a good food and mine supply before you build anything else, a hunters hut, foresters hut, saw mill, grain, mill, sheep ranch, slaughter house, water, then mid residence, then mines, don't worry about the sulfur, just coal and gold mines and iron, and smelters, don't think about temples, or vineyards, etc, that is for later on, but still wouldn't rec for the average gamer, this game is far to taxing on time for a average on the go player, I would say this game consist on average about three hours of you time for any real pay off per play, but I am very happy I gave it another go around, because it really is the first console/ pc game in full capacity that I have ever played on any idevice, and tho there is no skirmish mode, the game is so packed with mechanical content that it will be days if not months till you actually complete the game to be hungry for more, finally found my, wow that game looks complex, even tho it's really not once you get the hang of it, to show of to my friends, this game totally makes you look like a brainiac once you get a handle on the rules. Sept 3(update) ok, after literally having to write down the fundamentals of the game down on paper, I was able to get the game going at a more playable place, so I added 2 stars. But still the game is far to complex for instant gratification, I have spent well over 5hr just micro managing, and tho it still could be me, I'm sure their is some sort of bug in the game, I have yet to attack another tribe or even progress, all I have been able to do is expand and build at a faster pace, after the first level after the tutorial, from writing down the tutorial on paper, just to remember all the rules of what you have to build before you build something else, this is def a game for seasoned settler fans, has absolutely nothing to do with having any knowledge of rts games in general, I have played many rts games if not most for the idevices, and nothing comes even close to the labor of complexity that this game consist of. Most important this is not a combat game, not even in the slightest, it is a total micro management game, so as I will stat later, if you never played settlers, and have an actual life, this game is not for you, or at least me, def not worth the asking price if you are looking for a C&C type game. 	Well thanks for giving instructions on how to expand in level 3, BUT IT DIDNT HELP ME AT ALL, because what do you mean by " tap the cart with the donkey ". Where is the donkey, and where is the cart? And, " tap the cart with the donkey " isn't as simple as it seems. Do you mean their supposed to already be together, tap the donkey ranch and the building that makes carts ( I forgot how it's called, sorry) at the same time, tap the donkey at the donkey ranch and the cart in quick succession, or what???

	Well, this game looks like it would be a lot of fun, but I can't get past level 3 because of all the glitches! I make the donkey, the cart, and the 8 people like they tell me to, and then nothing happens. I can't explore with the people, I can select the donkey, but it won't move, and I can't even see the cart! Then I restarted level 3, and I couldn't even make all of the 8 people again! I'd order 8, but it would only make 5! So level 3 is all screwed up, and you can't play any of the other levels until you pass it. Gameloft, I payed $10 for this! Fix the glitches!

	I like it so far. It is has real depth in it's game play, unlike Civilization which chopped the game to peaces and is only a shadow of it's former self. The game is a little confusing at first. You have to make sure you have tools from your tool smith in order for your operations to work. A steady flow of food is important to keep your workers working. One thing that took me while to figure out was expanding territories with towers. And I'm still working on building a new settlement. All and all, it is very fun.

	This game is great, it is very addicting. I could easily get lost playing this for hours. This game will take some time to learn though, if you dont have experience with these types of games like I didnt, then plan on it taking a few hours to get the hang of it. Once you figure out how to play without the tutorial you will see just how much content this game has. I do hope that they add a freeplay mode, so you can just keep building on your settlement, but this game is great even without it. Its definitely worth the price.

	This is a great game but it's not with out it's flaws. Controls work great, graphics look great, good sound and all round fun. Now the flaw is that there is a pretty steep learning curve for people new to the settlers series and with the short time I've played there is a bug that is frustrating but not game breaking.

	This game is a joy - I'm sorry to the reviewers above me who couldn't "get it". It's really not that hard, if you have ever played a RTS game before you won't have a problem. Most of the negative comments seem to come from people who just aren't patient enough to learn the game and want their hands held the whole time. To them i say, "don't play RTS games". If you have a modicum of intelligence and a little patience you will get the hang of it, it's really very fun. I for one am glad to see iPad games take a step away from the simplicity of Angry Birds and towards something that actually requires THOUGHT... Great game, been waiting on it for a while.

	I love this game, it's deep and fun to play. However after playing it for a few days the game started to crash, basically the interface becomes all messed up and unusable. I hope this is fixed soon which is why I gave it only 3 stars when it deserves 5, I would love to go back to playing it again soon.

	I love these types of games and they hit this one on the head! There is plenty of game play and you get to play from every angle. Pros - Easy buttons to click, no lag in scrolling, great detail Cons - No way to group units for quick selection (There are ways to grab 1 of a unit, screen of a unit or every unit) But would be nice to make a quick selection so you can have your troops split into different groups, to keep from grabbing them all. All together i would definitally buy it again!

	This game seems to be about creating a massive sequence of tasks that one must do before you can do something else. It's extraordinarily complicated, and not just a little boring. I really don't know who would find this fun. That having been said, the graphics are nice and the game feels polished. I was hoping for something like Civ. But this is just needless complexity without the sense of urgency, competition or gameplay.

	Okay, I've read all the reviews and I agree with all who say it's fun - but also those who say it's glitchy. I'm very experienced with games like this, although I've never played "The Settlers," but this takes a great deal of patience to understand. The fact that there are absolutely no instructions or resources makes it much harder. The most frustrating experience is getting deep into the final Roman level only to discover that all martial production has shut down. No matter I do, no matter what happens, no matter how many of every kind of building I build, weapon makers will not produce any new weapons and barracks will not produce any new units, even though resources are piled all around the buildings. In addition, large numbers of military units will not respond to commands. I do not assume that there is a program glitch causing this. I assume that I'm doing something wrong. Not enough leaders, or not enough standards, or something. I'll keep trying. But it would be really nice if there were some simple instructions that said, "If you don't do x, then y might happen." I don't need to have my hand held or be told how to play, but providing some basic understanding of the relationships between behaviors would make this more fun and less frustrating.

	Pick up a shovel, move a shovel, drop a shovel. Train a pioneer, put a pioneer on a cart, move the cart, unload the pioneer off the cart. Are you serious? Frustrating and boring.
