	I love this dictionary and never once regretted the purchase. That said there are some improvements it could make. Typing a word with an entry still means you have to select it from a list, the option to press enter and go to the entry is not there. Likewise when you launch the app it takes you to the first word in the dict I would like to have an option of always going to the last entry. However I have never looked up a word that didn't have a entry so it is truly a complete dict.

	The app works wonderfully. Merriam-Webster has by far the most complete dictionary available. That being said, unfortunately, it does have a few features that are missing. The app does not have a thesaurus. It does not have example sentences or word origins. For $25 I would like a bit more. The Merriam-Webster website offers all of those features for free. For me, it was a waste of money. But, perhaps I was expecting too much.

	I had this dictionary on my Pocket PC and was glad that it was finally available for the iPhone! As they say, "you get what you pay for..." Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary is the recognized standard in a host of legal and journalistic professions. It has complete phonetic spelling as well as word etymologies which are not usually included in other dictionaries. It really is the 'final say' in most forums on the actual recognized definitions on words and their origins. Sure beats carrying the book around! True, the website does have basically the same information, but it is a little more cumbersome to use in comparison. This app is much quicker and obviously can be used where cell service is not the best. The free dictionaries are great, but you'll have a more complete understanding of English words with this app! Works smooth and is easy to use!

	There have been alot of negative reviews for this application, based mainly on the price, but I have found it to be the best dictionary app. available on iTunes. What I appreciate most of all is it doesn't require a WIFI or online connection in order to function, this is especially convenient to me because I don't own an iPhone...I own a first generatoin iPod Touch. When on the road a WIFI connection isn't always guaranteed (in all honesty they're few and far between) so this application is perfect for me.It is very stable and easy to use, and in all fairness I can see why people have labeled this a little on the pricey side when compared to other applications, but if I was going to gripe about prices it would be directed more toward the cost of the iPhone, AT&T calling plans. Now that (at least to me) is outrageous.It should also be noted that when purchasing a physical copy of a Merriam Webster dictionary of this many definitions (the GIANT hard cover editions) in stores it is roughly the same price. To me the convenience factor of having this goliath book stored in a tiny 9 megbyte iTouch application, that doesn't require an Internet connection, more that justifies the cost of buying this app..Keep in mind this app. is not for everyone, as others have stated, if you own an iPhone it really wouldn't make sense to purchase this as the Internet is almost always available to you. Also, for those who own an iPod Touch, before spending the money ask yourself, "Am I going to use this as much as I think I am?"

	Downloads quickly -- so much so that I thought at first it was a front end for online access. It works in airplane mode, though, so I guess not. MW is top of the dictionary heap in my book, but this gets one star off because it appears to be missing many of the proper names available in other electronic versions of the dictionary (for example from ereader.com). No crashes so far -- I'm cautiously optimistic.

	And the reason we bash cheaps like you is we don't give a crap about your finacial status and whether you only have a gift card. Either you're 13 years old or very under-employed if you don't have a credit card for an Itunes account, in which case I can't fathom why you are interested in a college level dictionary anyway. Our point is simply review the app (after you have purchased it) on it's functional merrits so we can decide if it's suitable for our needs. The rest of us are grown-ups and can decide if we want to pay such and such price. Ok, having ranted, I felt I should buy and review. I have the print versions of both this and the AHD, so I could compare content in each. Yes the AHD has more extras such as synonyms and word histories for some high use terms, and yes pictures, although many of these are fluff. Do I really need a picture of a discus thrower to help me define 'discus', for example! My decision was finally based on app size. The websters is a mere 10 meg while the AHD is close to half a gig if I am not mistaken. I don't need the pictures, as I have wiki if I really want to see something particular. I don't need audible pronunciations for the 98% of words I alredy know, and can use the pronunciation symbols just fine for those I don't. In short, content being roughly the same, I decided against the bloated app. The websters is very nice, quick (not all of us want to wait for net dictionaries on slow edge connections) with lookup as you type, etymologies, pronunciations, and obviously comprehensive. The only flaw so far is I can't find the biographical entries of my old print version, but perhaps I am missing something. In any case I no longer need to look for another dictionary, having already wasted money on 'cheaper' less comprehensive dictionaries.

	I agree with other reviewers that this is not the place for whining about app prices. The point of these reviews is to enable people to make informed decisions about whether a particular app will be of value to them before they spend their money on it. We want to know what an app does and how well it does it; things you can't know unless you've actually used it. We already know how much it costs, and we can judge for ourselves whether it's "worth it." A one-star review from someone who hasn't even used the app is worthless and distorts an apps overall rating. For me, this dictionary was worth what I paid for it because I use it in my work and I've found it to be far more complete and accurate than the free ones.

	Very dissapointing I love words and I'm constantly looking up every single one I can. I would like an upgrade that will include the words I post up as a regular habit. Some words may be missing but I want the words below to come out as I'm typing them. All you have to do is look at my list of words and include them on the next update. I HATE having to do the similar word search; and even when I do some of them don't come up. I will section out the updates; if there's any. Until then, here's the list of words that will not appear on this dictionary so far as of April 3, 2009: lectisternium, brumalia, princeps, sigillaria, checheya, synaxis, weariness, dullness, interrelationship, sincerely, flagella, genuineness, artificiality, vaingloriously, indefinitely, gullies, bits, conceitedly, impending, impairment, dismemberment. This is the next set; as promised. And still no upgrade as of May 1, 2009. smitten, colloidal, meiotic, mitochondria, spiritualistic, technically, smitting, nebular, nebulae, roiling, agitation, dregs, nihilist, nihilistic, normless, normlessness, inconspicuously, procrastination, stubborness, consummating, mucinous, moonlighting, moonlighter, plebeians, ulnar, formally, unaquainted, blamelessness, straightfowardness, evasiveness, uncompounded, awareness, unfaithfulness, eukaryotes, cutest, dicotyledonous, angiospermous. Yet another set and no upgrade as of June 21, 2009. haughtily, sharply, coolly, scrupulously, shadowing, smiting, gummas, utilization, conative, repugnantly, stimuli, suddenly, severely, grievously, laboriously, dully, tricalcium, psyllerol, energetically, eagerness, immunomodulatory, whyrrying, hedonist, arching, wielding, referring. I will keep this list up to date.

	Great dictionary, diappointing App. I downloaded the sound pack, even though they didn't explain what it is. It didn't work. Also the functionality of the dictionary is in question. I click on a word while in the defination of another word. Sometimes I'm brought to the new word, sometimes not. I've also found at least one word with no definition at all! This is not worth 25 dollars. My free dictionaries were actually better, except that merriam Webster distinguishes between transitive and intransitive verbs. I love the "real world" mw dictionary. But I'd shoot the makers of this app if I could. Kill em dead. They ripped me off. I am not happy at all!

	I find myself using the iPhone App I purchased at least daily. The recent release included some very thoughtful additions. I would like to request another.A favorites list.Often I will look up a word that is new to me, and find that it is one I very much would like to remember. The ability to create lists would greatly enhance your product.Please consider this.Additionally, I have one complaint. Following a search, when one selects the desired result, the tapped result does not become highlighted in blue when selected, which is inconsistent with the iPhone interface. This is a little annoying ... not a deal-breaker, though this ought to be fixed.Kindly.

	This update makes the dictionary work in iPad's native resolution! Also, kudos to MW/Paragon for NOT charging extra for those who already own the dictionary on iPhone/iTouch. Can't wait for OED(Oxford English Dictionary) to be available on iPad or iPhone!

	This dictionary is complete in all aspects - good definitions, and fast function. I upgraded from v2.22. I contacted Paragon by eMail and telephone and was advised that the upgrade to v2.3 was free. My instructions were to delete v2.22 and then install v2.3 from iTunes to my computer. Installation was fast and complete, BUT the upgrade was not free; i was CHARGED $24.99. I have contacted Apple; they are processing my claim.

	The developers of this app were smart not to overcomplicate the delivery of this information. The information is what were paying for, after all. One improvement I would like to see is a toggle to show the results of full text search. Also, when clicking on a word in a definition, it would be nice to have the option to be able to see other definitions where the word appears.

	I thought I was paying a premium price for a larger dictionary. Don't be fooled (like I was). The 2.0 version I just downloaded has less than 90,000 entries.

	As a returning college student and a new iPod touch owner this is just what I was looking for in a dictionary. Between US History and World Lit it's a blessing to have a good solid dictionary that I can grab mid-study to enlighten myself as to a words meaning. That fact that that dictionary is always close and fits in my shirt pocket is the icing on the cake. There maybe a better option but several googles searches dispute this and at 10 megs it really is an efficient and light weight app. Lastly the ability to click on any word in a definition and be taken to that words definition is a nice extra!

	I had this same dictionary on my Treo 750 and loved it. My only suggestions is a way to clear the history. It stores the last 15 words you looked up - which is great; but sometimes you just want to clear it all and start clean.
