FUTURE MUSIC UK:
You may think about touchAble and an iPad instead of a hardware controller. A compliment indeed.
MUSICTECH MAG UK: It can handle the majority of performance or interactive elements within Live without requiring any manual controller design or mapping, making it an easy-to-use but nonetheless powerful Live controller. 9/10
Definitely a recommendation for all iPad users who think about buying a controller for Live - even though touchAble isnt able to deliver haptic feedback in many areas it has advantages to physical controllers. Its worth it - even for studio-use.
touchAble - control Ableton Live from your iPad
Navigate around your live set with the touch of a finger, tweak Lives mixer, instruments and fx with full automapping and unlimited tracks & parameters.
touchAble allows live users to walk away from their computer and perform live from anywhere within Wi-Fi range while keeping latency at a minimum.
Play your favorite synths with the unique double keyboard or record your rhythms with the 16 drum pads, including 5 velocity steps & octave selectors.
Extend your creativity with the multi dots XY Pad and record, play and morph your mouvements.
Access the most important transport and clip functions without losing focus on your set and tweak the same set with two iPads with the unique Dual-User-Mode.

touchAble does not require any midi-mappings as it uses LiveOSC to communicate directly with the LiveAPI.

This is the app that shows you that the iPad has a place in music
Creation. App well done
Since the guys from Touchable gave me the chance to try it out, I can't stop using it.
It's amazingly stable and definitely supa easy to use!
I tried many different options for Ipad, but nothin' can compete.
This is a hit!
Any person who rates this app less than 4 or 5 stars is either nuts or a rival app maker, because this app is simply "best of breed" for controlling Ableton Live. Better by FAR than any iDevice app for controlling Live, better by FAR than my Novation LaunchPad, and from looking at the overall feature set of an APC-40, this app even beats out the APC-40. At less than $20 USD for a full-featured controller for Live, you simply cannot go wrong. I've encountered only one very small bug that has a simple workaround (and that's in the "server" app that runs on your desktop, not in the iDevice app). Overall it's VERY bug-free for a version 1 release of such complexity. Watch the video on the developer site and you'll see how incredibly robust and usable this app is.
The current (and temporary) weaknesses that I could see rating this as only 4-stars are: The install and setup doc is VERY good, but there's no real doc for the UI itself yet, so some things are confusing at first until you experiment and figure out what some buttons/windows in the app do. But really, if you know Live at all, then it's easy to figure out what 99% of this app UI is doing/controlling. Really the UX design and the workflow is very streamelined and superb. The other small "ding" is a somewhat small selection of native templates for the graphical elements of some devices (such as the envelope graph for the Operator instrument, but that's a nit because alternatively they still give you complete control over all device parameters via a slider/toggle UI that names every single parameter.
These guys, and also BlipInteractive (developer of the wonderful NanoStudio), have really raised the bar for proffesional music app design on the iDevice platform!
This app is awesome. Programs like touchAble are why I bought an iPad in the first place...to use as a touch controller for audiovisual production. To get this kind of control over Ableton Live would take countless hours of programming in TouchOSC and OSCulator (perhaps possible but not something I personally want to do). The app is really fun to play with and a great value. The transport and mixer controls are worth the money by themselves, let alone all the other goodies included (pads, keys, device control, etc). The interface, although not stunning from an aesthetic perspective, is rather flexible and intuitive to use. Clip triggering has some latency when using tight quantize values but that could be due to my WiFi.
I had a few initial headaches getting connected but my problem turned out to be something that I was doing incorrectly in my hazy, late night haste. The developer answered my emails quickly and did everything possible to get me up and running.
Overall, glad I purchased this.
This is the one. really. The best ipad app ever.
This app really does make the iPad competitive with some of the other compelling MIDI controller interfaces out there for Ableton Live: APC 40, Launchpad, Lemur, etc. It has the same kind of reprogrammability and customization as the others, but really makes excellent use of the smooth modality of a multitouch interface. Once you get used to that, physical knobs and buttons start to seem really clunky by comparison.
An excellent 1.0 release, the creators are to be congratulated!
Wooden Eye Reco
This app is fantastic! Setup was a breeze, and using it opens so many doors. I have used the other programs out there, and this is by far the best!
Setup was painless. The extremely low latency will make this very useful. Navigation between controls is extremely fast.
My only two complaints are: 1- there is no x/y pad for effects, just sliders. It seems that if the eq can have its own interface, so could the x/y effects. 2- I cannot access effects inside a nested rack. If you use dummy clips (there are lots of us) then you have nested racks and multiple chains. I would like to be able to navigate through all parts of racks when controlling effects.
That said, this app is beautiful! There is nothing that comes close to the quality and usability for Ableton. Thank you!
Setup was fast (could never get the LiveControl app to work ever!) and for a new release, it's working great. I can now retire my 2 UC-33s and travel much lighter.
The developers are listening to suggestions on the forum and promise new features/update soon. Best $17 ever spent...

This is the best ipad app for Ableton and is one of the best controllers for Ableton as well !!! I Have the Launchpad and APC and this is just as good if not better in many ways!!!! Do not wait get this. If you have ableton and iPad or you Have Ableton and no other controller. This is way to go!
wow! it wa incredibly easy to set up, worked perfectly with my ad hoc network i set up. the latency was really really low on the pads and keyboards, and there is so much buikt in control right of the gate. really amazing onscreen feedback on the volume levels, after a 20 minutes of playing around saw no real issues and everything was extremely intuative for anyone familiar with ableton. this app does all and more than you need, and unlike other diy custom osc control set ups, it wont take hours of programming and trial and error. great job guys! worth every penny.
requests/hopes: cant wait for x/y and maybe 8 knob macro controls? also request auto mapping to good knobs on live's plug ins? (hopefully more intellegent choices than what gets auto assigned on my apc40!)
Congrats on this amazing app your contribution to music creation and performance has become my favorite so far and to think that I spend so much money on dedicated controllers when I could of just have this !! I've tested the app in my Mac and PC as well so far so good now to take it on the road! but I'm 100 % confident that it will deliver!! This is no scam the real scam is not to have it!! Also their technical support is super efficient got a response in less that 15 min after emailing them amazing guys keep up the amazing job!!! Zarbeat (Siteholder, Timefog, Difusion, Dialtone)
Gawd. This is THE reason for Live users to own an iPad. Thank you x10^6!
Brilliant design, best of any hardware or software ableton-dedicated controller. BUT. Sliders and knobs often control at unusably low resolution - zipper noise everywhere. Granted I'm someone who also finds midi inadequate for this, but this makes midi look like OSC. Once memory starts to slog even track volume changes result in artifacts. Rebooting before use helps, but at present this isn't usable - at least for what I do. If you primarily need triggering and coarse res control is fine with you, though, it's going to fit your needs beautifully.
This app is incredible. I had a couple of challenges setting up that were operator error, but I contacted customer support and the response was immediate. There's zero latency with the controls, drum and keyboard pads. This app is a must have for Live users.
trouble with tr
Need a computer connected to open this app. Also needs several additional software, hard software, in your computer. Not only that, you must be a NASA expert to configure all systems. All this, just to OPEN the APP. Im trying for 2 days... I want my money back. Dont wast your money...
TouchAble is the next best thing to having Ableton Live on the iPad... all the essential controls are there, nicely laid out and intuitive to use. I was able to find my way around the app with little learning curve, and in a matter of a couple of hours had completely integrated it into my Live workflow.
It fits perfectly alongside my Novation Launchpad and SL MkII keyboard controller... I use the Launchpad setup with custom remix mappings (to trigger FX, slicing, re-sampling & re-sequencing, etc.) and I use the SL MkII with Automap to control and tweak plugins and other custom settings. So TouchAble fits perfectly as the main Live interface controller...
I'm using it to control the main transport, mixer, arm/mute/solo tracks, launch and manipulate clips, tweak onboard FX, and even build up grooves using the pad triggers (they've done a great job with the velocity controls there).
I knew the iPad would be a great tool for remote controlling DAWs and other software. TouchAble is the best "proof of concept" I've seen yet for this exciting new platform...
Final note: v1.0 is very stable, with very few noticeable bugs... an excellent first release!!
Absolutely amazing software for the price. Ableton is so much more fun with this app. Minor problem with setting up but got instant help from an amazing customer support group. A must have for ableton owners
I love Ableton Live but hadn't upgraded to 8 from 7 as none of the new features were really that important to me. I make music as a hobby and tend to focus on the a value:performance curve - you might say I'm kind of cheap. When I saw this app, I bought it without a thought about compatibility. Woops! It doesn't work with older versions. What to do?... After some consideration, I went ahead and upgraded to Live 8. In a way, this app cost me almost $240 and, guess what, it was worth every penny.
+ Responsive and sensitive controls, surprisingly so. I find that levels and other sliders function more smoothly and more accurately than I can achieve with a mouse in Live and are almost as sweet as the physical faders on my controller.
+ Flexible UI allows you to arrange controls, while not completely customizable, given the real-estate, in completely sensible way.
+ Controls for just about every aspect I could expect/want out of such a controller. In particular being able to easily get into FX settings for tracks has been a vast improvement over the Live interface.
+ FINALLY gives you a tool with which to drive Live that doesn't shackle you behind a table during performance!
- The setup process is poor for Windows users
- Documentation is weak
- Controls can be a bit cryptic in their function
Notice how my complaints aren't really about how the app behaves? That is because it is 100% awesome and I basically paid 15x the price! If you have Live 8.x then there really isn't a decision to be made - stop reading reviews and just buy this.
