innovative newcomer to the iOS SSH sceneIf Im fair you really only earned the first 4 stars of this five star review with version 1.0, but I have every confidence that upcoming improvements will quickly and legitimately secure the fifth.Ive been using various other apps (mostly iSSH) for years now, but was excited to see Panic throw their hat in the ring. Since Prompt was just released an hour ago, or so, there hasnt been much time to discover everything yet, but here are my first impressions. Layout and Keyboard:Love the user customizable keys, great for tweaking power-user access to suit your favorite shell. UI is very clean and easy to use but maybe could use a little optimization to enhance utility. Unless youre switching between sessions often, the upper left portion is wasted while in a session, would be better purposed housing an optional secondary custom keypad with room for more custom keys, to obviate need for digging in the menu for ~ < > ^ & and any other key one couldnt fit into ones own custom key zone.Speed:Is it just me or is this wicked fast compared to other mobile shell interfaces? Many other apps have a sluggishness about them unrelated to the ping, [probably the result of some bloated java library] but the responsiveness of Prompt is consistent with its name. Interface response speed is good, and with customizable virtual keys command entry is a bit faster as well.Sound:Love that the system alert sound can be audio of visual, but small bug to report at release, system sound has no respect for volume control (at least on the iPad2 with which I was testing) Though in fairness the PC speaker has always been a bit a hassle in this respect, so perhaps its an homage? ;)Autocomplete:Must take a little while to build a database of how to complete commands because it wasnt coming up for me, but I look forward to saving keystrokes for frequent usage cases, like scp to or from home machine.General polish:Very nice little touches like when you exit out of a session Prompt automatically brings up the last visited open session. (other apps make you navigate menus to switch away from dead session).Overall Prompt is my new favorite iOS SSH tool, with a few edges left to smooth. If you can spare $5 its likely better than the SSH app youre using now, and quality updates and revisions are all but assured from a respected developer like Panic.P.s. Pretty SSH for casual SSH usersThe good:- Looks pretty- Copy & Paste actually work reliably and as expected with other iOS apps- Bluetooth keyboard supports most uses of Esc and Ctrl keys out of the boxThe bad:- Terminal emulation is poor. It defaults to TERM=xterm-color, which generates poor results with irssi and emacs. Try setting TERM=ansi for some better results.- Lacks some of the more advanced features (port forwarding, key management, etc.) the more mature SSH clients have, but thats fairly reasonable for a 1.0 release IMO.Given 3 stars since an SSH clients primary purpose is terminal emulation. If thats not bullet proof, all the rest just doesnt matter. The terminal emulation is good enough for some casual use, making it OK but not quite ready to take over as a primary SSH client yet. Prompt has great potential and worth following for future updates.

lovely ... but no arrow keys?This is a fantastic SSH client: quick, clean, panic-like in every way. I tend to use my SSH clients on iphone/ipad with an apple bluetooth keyboard. Unlike other SSH clients, theyve gotten the ESC key to work (which is no mean feat!) as well as control keys. But ... the arrow keys, not so much (or not at all). Yes, you can always use the soft KB arrows, and they all work fine, but during a vim session I really, really would love to be able to use the bluetooth arrow keys. Nearly perfect, but glaringly flawed (at least for my case). Please let people know about bluetooth KB support (or lack thereof) in the app description.

I like where this is goingThe app is beautiful. It is so much better looking than I even anticipated. The terminal is crisp and clear. I am nothing less than completely flabberghasted and impressed by the accomplishment.However, it still shows some 1.0 bugs.I dont know if any one else was facing a similar problem, on my iPad 2 it was insanely slow. The refresh rate, key response rate, and so on were all incredibly laggy. I thought it was possibly my connection at home, however Im now at my office (which is a datacenter) and I can assure you speed is not an issue. If Im to do work like I do in terminal, a response rate is key, otherwise Im going to be skipping frames and those frames may have important information.

just the basicswhen i saw panic released their first app for the ipad i jumped right on it, always a great developer of mac apps. unfortunately i was sorely disappointed with this app. its bare bone ssh and thats it. hope that panic has a lot of plans for this app with a lot of improvements, else youre better off spending your money elsewhere if you want a featured ssh client.

Best ssh clientThis app is smooth. It manages your lists of servers to connect to, it maintains an open connection when you need to switch to another server, shortcut keys you can change, ssh key support. I cant think of anything they missed.Panic did not drop the ball on this app. Well worth the price.

the best terminal clientThis is the best terminal client. It does one thing, so well: connects via SSH and then gets the hell out of your way. It supports bluetooth keyboards, including esc, control, and the arrow keys (a new addition) which puts it head and shoulders above every other terminal app I have tried. As someone who spends a fair amount of time in vim, having all the modifier keys work via bluetooth suddenly makes my ipad a notebook replacer.It doesnt do xterm, it doesnt have tons of fiddly knobs: it just connects fast and well. Worth many times the price.

Saved my butt at the bar..On the same day I bought the app, it came up big. Its funny how many tiny features this app has that makes me keep saying wow.. Previous command popups, shortcut keys etc.. This app has them all and for $5 on my iPhone and iPad.. If you need a client, I dont know what the others offer but this one has everything I can think of and more and has worked fantastic so far.

Son, I am disappointWas told Prompt was better than all the other ssh clients so thought Id give it a go despite already owning iSSH, pTerm and TouchTerm. Son, I am disappoint.Unusable with emacs. No font or color settings. No transparent keyboard. Cant generate ssh keys. No apparent way to export or import connection settings. No tunnel or ssh-agent support. No way to configure the size of the terminal. Doesnt seem to export the TERM setting properly. The "autocomplete" feature is cute but ultimately useless.Prompt is only marginally better on the iPad than the iPhone-only TouchTerm app. IMO, iSSH is still the best for both iPad and iPhone.

Needs improvementTheres this annoying beep. And if you dont like that, theres this annoying screen flash. And the backspace character that it sends is really ctrl+h, so its not compatible with emacs by default. And the connections freeze when the app is in the background.But the icon is pretty.
