The Early Edition 2 is a beautiful, up-to-the-minute newspaper that puts you in the editorial seat. RSS feeds are the basis for content and now it can be used either as a standalone app or in sync with a Google Reader account.

Now sporting a gorgeous column-based page layout, The Early Edition 2 uses an algorithm to intelligently position stories based on their content. This means every page is now both beautiful and dynamic.

Page turns can now follow your finger which looks stunning. Or you can simply swipe horizontally or tap the edge of the page.

Our intuitive multitouch interface strips back visual clutter so you can focus on the news. The main newspaper view is now completely free of buttons in both orientations which means you can simply enjoy browsing and reading your paper.

All images are now cached on the device so if you go out of network coverage, you still get the full reading experience. Also, you can choose to either load images in real-time while you navigate the paper or set it to preload all images. Preloading images is especially useful for Wifi iPads or use when a 3G network is unavailable such as flights.

Updated and went back to the old.I loved the old version of early edition, so when the new one came out I eagerly downloaded it. Early Edition 2 has some nice features, however Im finding that I dont use it. When I do open it, I tend to just give up and close it. Its much harder to find things in it than in the older version. After uninstalling 2, I was ecstatic to find that I still had the old version in my iTunes. Installed it and am happy again. I use Early edition in landscape mode and really miss the sidebar from the original. When I pull it up its usually because I want to see whats new on a specific feed. So I missed not being able to easily pull up all the articles from that specific feed.

UnderwhelmingWas expecting something really great, but I was very disappointed. Very choppy animations and scrolling in stories. Very hard to organize stories. Very hard to make your way around the app. Way to many different sections, things sliding in and out, etc. Also, no feature like Magic Reader in Pulp. Because of that, stories look cheap and poorly laid out. Definitely not as polished as Pulp, so Im sticking with it for my news reading for now. Hoping to see some updates that improve this app.

Amazing new versionAt first, Ill admit that I was a bit miffed that Id have to pay full price again when Ive been a loyal user of the first Early Edition for a year. And yet, its my favorite app for viewing news and blogs, so I decided to get the newest version. And Im happy I did. Its the same feel but upgraded in every way. Sharing is easier. Saving stories I like is easier (I used to email them to myself--now I can simply "clip" them to save in my clippings box). The format is more beautiful. Organizing sections is a possibility. It even displays older stories until the section fills up (in grey font instead of black) so that I can go back to yesterdays story easily if I choose to. All in all, Im incredibly happy with it. Its the only app Ill use to keep up with reading blogs, and its my favorite of the news readers.

Almost Amazing. Almost...The Early Edition 2 comes so close to be a truly amazing app. But there are two main problems. The first one is obvious. The app is sluggish at times and crashes every now and then. But I have come to expect that from first releases, and I am sure that will be resolved soon.What stops me from giving The Early Edition 5 stars is that when I click on many of the articles I only get a snipped of the text. If I want to read the full article I have to open it in the in-line web browser. Its not the end of the world, but it adds an extra step for me and the text in the browser is usually small and the sites cluttered with adds. There is a "easy" solution to this and I hope the developer will consider it… Integrate Readability! Same technology Apple uses for the Reading List feature in Safari. Early edition could use the readability API to extract the full text from articles and display them in-line rather than having to open a browser. If that were to happen I would replace Reeder as my primary RSS app.

Outstanding!I have been an Early Edition user for about a year. I searched high and low for a reader application and tried a few but settled on Early Edition. It didnt have all of the press that the other apps had, but I liked how much control I had over the articles and the general look and feel. It felt like a paper.After reading the reviews on the app store I was skeptical, as I have grown quite attached to my paper...but I was very pleasantly pleased! This version has many more features and provides a ton more graphical integration. I like as well that the Instapaper integration is still in. I love the gestures and the suggested articles/feeds. Now that we have this it would sure be nice to make some smaller improvements over each few months. Printing would be my first item, right from the reader of news page. Excellent work! I love the new app!!!

NopeIt doesnt work. Only one of my feeds show up. And on that one the stories dont show up in full. The earlier version worked. There should always be a free trial, but now Im simply out $5.

The Early Edition 2I liked the original so much I just automatically assumed Id love this. But I hate it! Ugh.I wish I hadnt paid for the upgrade. My old version will continue to get use. I just dont want to manually rebuild all my sections...

Awesome update, going in the right directionMuch improved over the first version, it works much better and the syncing is extremely fast. But compared to the first version this is a huge improvement.Awesome in app help, makes it very easy to learn the nice UI. Excellent support, I emailed about an issue and got an almost immediate reply with a very clear explanation and apology for the issue. Two days later and the issue is gone with this latest update. Goodbye Reeder, Im hooked on Early Edition now!!!

Great with Google Reader!As a news reader, its absolutely great. The format is very pleasing to the eye, and the gestures make it easy to navigate.As a Google Reader client, it works great, and I actually find it much nicer to use then Reeder, which is also great, but alas, my second choice now.

Even better!Ive loved the first version since my first iPad. Years later Version 2 shows the developer has spent lots of time making a great new product. The new layout is clearer and much more fun to use. This is still the best news reader I have and Ill continue to use it every day.
