Description

The year is 1289. To strengthen the borders of the Kingdom of France, King Philip the Fair decided to have a new castle built. For the time being, Caylus is but a humble village, but soon, workers and craftsmen will be flocking by the cartload, attracted by the great prospects. Around the building site, a city is slowly rising up…
The players embody master builders. By building the King’s castle and developing the city around it, they earn prestige points and gain the King’s favour. When the castle is finished, the player who has earned the most prestige wins the game.

Still in betaGreat game, good job bringing it over to the iPad. My only frustration is the game permanently crashed after playing over an hour. Once fixed this game would probably rate a five. If you dont mind playing to beta test and send constant crash reports give this a try. Otherwise, wait for the next update.

Looks good plays not so good...Pros1) nice graphics2) does all the bookkeeping for youCons1) I have only played 2 player but the AI is pretty bad. The computer gets 1 man stuck in the inn the whole game! Practically loses immediately.2) hard to know where the bailiff and provost are in relation to the buildings. Difficult to count spaces because these guys now stand in between buildings. When there are no buildings, hard to count spaces. 3) does not show how many castle sections have been built by an opponent THIS turn. You have to remember4) cannot see the whole map at once. Makes looking at overall strategy difficult because you must scroll around. Allow zooming in and out5) tap and drag to place workers doesnt work well because the viewport shifts. Better to do tap tap to allocate men

The King Has Arrived!Other than some crashing on my first-gen iPad this is what Ive been waiting for - Caylus is one of my few perfect-10-rated games and Ive been waiting for this app for what seems like forever. Thanks for providing it!

Excellent implementation of a classic euro game!The AI plays a strong game, and the graphics , while different from the board game , fit the theme and dont distract. Decent tutorial system. Overall, Im very impressed! I would have liked to have been able to examine the board when the final scoring is tallied, and a score pad that details how each players final score was arrived at, but these are minor quibbles from a statistics freak... Highly recommended.

Well doneHave not played the bg, but tutorial and rules made this "complex" game easier to play than expected. No crashes during my first a 2 games. Highly recommend if you enjoy Euro style games.

Polished Implementation of Fun Euro GameCaylus is a European board game in which you place workers on various buildings to collect resources, build buildings, and contribute to the construction of a large castle. There is no combat- the game is about economic management and wise use of limited resources. This app implements the game faithfully. Its polished, with tasteful graphics and title music. You can play vs. AIs or human opponents online. While there is a built-in tutorial and rulebook, the learning curve is steep and the game is complex, so it might take several play-throughs to get the hang of it. (Personally, Im really happy to see advanced board games like Caylus being ported to iOS.) I didnt encounter any crashes or other technical issues on an iPhone 4, although the loading time to start or resume a game can be a little long.

Great but..So far im loving this board game. However, towards the end of a two player ai game, really slows down on my Ipad, computer takes forever to move, and game even slows down when im selecting things. Also, there needs to be more help. Such as clicking on a building and having it tell what it is or does, or an info button.5 stars once totally stable and runs faster.

Pretty good but a few problems remainThere doesnt seem to be a way to end a game and start a new one without killing the application (no way to abandon a game and go back to the menu either for that matter). Still, the game play is good and the AI is decent (Ive yet to win a game, actually). Definitely worth the $5 I paid for it.

Awesome look, only a few minor changes needed.This game looks just like it should, kudos to the designers and artists! Echoing some of the other reviews though, this game should have the following:- a pop up when you touch the buildings that show what they do before you put down your worker.- a zoom out so that you can have a wider view- a more obvious indicator of how many sections the folks in front of you built in the castle so that you know what you need to build to out do them- a better located or larger menu button. Took me a while to figure that out.- a more expanded set of rules that explains more details for those that need itLoving this game, I think you all did an outstanding job with it. I will be playing this a lot!

Great way to learn the masterpiece CaylusIf you are new to the game, play this along side Ryan Sturms How To Play Podcast on Caylus (google those words). It will take about 45 minutes to listen through while you stare at the layout of the board, but then you will be ready to enjoy the king of worker placement board games. I know that sounds like a lot but it will be worth it and it will save you the frustration of digging around the fair but not so great manual.Another reason this is good for new players is that the game automates a lot for the player so its easier to focus on strategy and tactics rather than on game upkeep.Such a great game and I really like the presentation here over the physical board game version. I can only hope that its republished with these visuals.

Learn the rules by playingThis is a fun, but nerdy game. Dont worry too much about understanding the rules, especially if you havent played one of these worker placement games. There are some layer of subtlety in the game, but Im not sure if it will keep my interest long enough to figure them all out.

Great adaption of the board game!Im a long time caylus fan and I love the iPhone version. Especially the multiplayer. My wife and I play on our iPhone/iPads. Turns register fast which is great! Thanks devs!Tip: to start a new game, close the panel on the left side of the screen and then click menu on top.

Perfect for learning the gameWeve owned the board game for some time now but havent played because we often have only a couple of hours available with our gaming friends. Now, after a few games on the iPad, I can teach the group in far less time than it would have taken for all of us to learn at once.
