	Writing app has only 15-20 characters, dictionary available in freeappThe writing module, which is supposed to teach to write new words, only contains 15 yes, fifteen or so characters. This makes it useless. It should contain 400 to 2000 characters to be useful. The dictionary is phenomenal but AVAILABLE FOR FREE. Just search apps for "dian hua" or "dianhua" to get the exact same dictionary, with all the same features, at no cost.

	So Far, So Good... BUTI find this program very, very good... however, I totally agree with the former reviewers who expressed frustration with the fact that the voice module is not yet available. This highlights the bogus reviews which are mere advertisements for the software. What gives? I flew through the first few modules as I have been living in China over a year now, and eagerly await PAYING MORE MONEY to get additional levels.I would hope that future versions allow updating the application with voice and additional levels through the application itself. I searched and searched in the app store looking for the voice module only to find out by reading reviews that the voice module was not available. You have got to make this easier, and please... no more false advertisements by posing as a phony user. It really put me off--as Im sure it puts many people off as well. If you have a good app... the users will drive your sales via the reviews. You got a good app here. 谢谢你！

	Terrific app in many ways, but limitedThe reason I sprang for this app was the character drawing function, and Im glad I did -- its terrific. The fact that there is no sound yet is a shame, but language lessons that focus on speaking are widely available at reasonable prices, and this is the first piece of software Ive seen that will help drill me on writing, and Im happy with it even without the sound. The way the training is executed is very nice. My writing improved quickly playing with this program, and that in turn helps my ability to memorize and recognize the written characters. The only real disappointment I have is that four lessons is not very much. I hope there are more lessons available before long, and I hope the future lessons will sell for less than $2.50/lesson.

	Great funtionality!At first, I was kind of reluctant to buy this app for 10$, but I took a dive and went for it. iChinese is extremely helpful with restructuring writing and increasing vocabulary.I speak Chinese at home, so I know some of the words. Hah, isnt it great to know that the way you have been writing "hao" for years gets you a 0? I love how it checks your strokes and makes sure you sort of stay in the structure of the character. Im hoping this app will help me increase me reading and writing skills in Chinese a lot more, its such a great program. I might even buy the sound module, just so I can comprehend all of the words better. (Since I never actually learned the sounds, I just know what a word sounds like....)Oh, and the inclusion of the Dictionary is fantastic. Its the same as DianHua, but I like how you can choose how many characters compose the word that you are looking for. Just because sometimes a search for a simple word returns so many results!

	bad writing recognitionI am a native chinese and I downloaded the apps with high hopes (due to its high rating) that it can teach my kids to write chinese. I tested the apps myself after downloading it. The writing recognition of this application is horrible. Perfectly correctly written chinese characters are deemed "failure" because the location of each stroke is not perfectly aligned with the template. This is not acceptable. It just puzzles me why such expensive application can not handle such simple task.

	Works in conjunction with "Practical......Chinese Reader". Luckily this is the text we are using in my Mandarin 101 class. However there are a couple of caveats before you buy: When writing characters,please understand this app presents ONE variation. My teacher has an entirely different way of writing, and the popular Chinese website, Yellowbridge.com has ANOTHER way to write characters. Second caveat: in order to hear characters you have to buy the add-on speech app. Total cost is about $16.00. A stiff price, but I do use this program everyday and it is a very valuable study aid. Im not sure what use it will be to someone who isnt familiar with "Practical Chinese Reader".A good website to learn Mandarin characters is Yellowbridge.com. It has a free area and a members area. 	Voice module is available now. Cost additional $10 though.Im fluent in Chinese ( read and write ). I use this application to look up the pinyin for Chinese characters that I cannot pronounce accurately. A lot of non native Chinese learners probably have similar experience. You sort of know the pronunciation of a character, but your pronunciation is not accurate enough to yield the proper pinyin sequence to enter the character on your keyboard.Since the iphone / ipod touch supports stroke input at the system level, it is great for iChinese to integrate stroke input into the dictionary portion of the app. IMO, stroke input is a must for any electronic Chinese dictionary. Unfortunately, most electronics Chinese dictionaries with such features ( stroke input and pronunciation ) cost upward of $300. They are also big and ugly.$10 is actually a good price for an app with such specialized functionality. The updated app is more stable on my 16G iphone 3G. The voice module is available for an additional $10, the pair will make a good Chinese pocket dictionary.

	Superb, for any Chinese Learner, found one bug though.I just downloaded the product today, and Im ecstatic with my purchase. Im an American Student studying at Peking University, and to have this lovely app on my iphone is extremely convenient. I have studied Chinese for 3+ years, and this app remains useful. Positives are as follows:1) Dictionary is thorough, and awesome feature of being able to search for characters at any point in a word and at any length of word allows for easy searching, if one is unsure about the syntax. Example: a general search for 中 leads you to one-char finds of zhong meaning "middle". Tap the "2" Button, and you see two word structures with zhong in them, like 中国 or 当中. Tap the "3" button and you see entries like 中餐馆. Tap the "4+" button, and youll find numerous entries, like 中华人民共和国。Sensational. Ease of searching unlike anything ive seen before.2) Word searching is quick, and does not take many seconds like other apps/electronic dictionaries.3) Lessons are fun, and the training is quite innovative- I sense the developer has scratched the ice of a high-potential market: the quick-and-structured handheld language learning process.4) Price of a small compact dictionary on Amazon: $30. Price of a cheap handheld electronic dictionary at the local market: $65. Price of a legit e-dictionary with writing ability, and good depth in China: $190. Price of this app (and your sunk cost, of course, is the iPhone you bought for multiple other purposes): $10. What a huge deal.Negatives:1) There is a bug. Every time, when I type in characters using 汉字, and the search button happens to be looking for "Pinyin", the application crashes back to the home screen when i search the characters. This is an inconvenient problem, but is likely to be resolved easily. The application is supposed to understand that i am searching for "Characters", but it seems to be spotty.2) Please include more advanced lessons for non-beginners, so we can see how helpful / what material is covered in the lessons.I am quibbling about small details, but I should honestly say that for ten bucks, this app is easily a steal. Easily.

	App Does Not Contain SoundI read the description to the point where it said “training of vocabulary by means of memorizing, writing, reading and listening” and then I bought this $10 app. Big mistake. Later in the description it says “requires the speech output pack Mandarin to be installed, available separately in the AppStore”. This app doesn’t even exist right now. So great, I can learn to write Chinese characters. But I don’t need to do that. As for the dictionary, there are free apps that provide that functionality. Shame on me for not reading it all.

	Save your ten bucksThis was the first app I paid for on iTunes, guess itll be my last unless I can "try before you buy". This was a waste of money. The handwriting recognition is awful. Ive given it to native speakers and excellent writers and they often get "Failure" when writing the characters. The order in which the app teaches you is bizarre. When you draw the character incorrectly (which is usually), itll show you how, then ask you to draw a different character, which, to me, seems just dumb.Then, there are multiple-choice quizzes that are so easy its absurd, like: What does "Ni Hao" (written in characters, of course) mean? Youre given a choice of four options like, "How are you?" , "Hello", and I dont recall the others. But, the point being is that its useless.There doesnt seem to be too much here to learn either. The author obviously wants to make money by having you purchase expansion packs, but Im done with this. Save your money and just use the Pleco dictionary with the Handwriting Keyboard.

	Loving itGreat app. The dictionary is very useful. The interface is easy and outright cool. The only problem is that if you want to learn new characters, you have to purchase additional packs. Once they are purchased though, you can learn them yourself, or let the built-in algorithm guide you. I use the latter and loving it! :)

	Excellent ResourceThis app is very useful for learning Chinese. You really need to buy the speaking add on to get the most out of it, but it is definitely worth it. The pronunciation is clearer than most apps out there so it is easier to learn a new word. If you are a student of Chinese you really should get this.

	Its alrightIt is good for learning characters, how ever horrible for practicing them. When I write characters I previously knew perfectly it fails them because they arent in the "correct" position on the practice area. They should fix that in an up date.....a free update. This is expensive but so far good app and should be used along with an actual instructor as some of the dictionary definitions are confusing
