Version 2.0 included a new map update feature called FreshMaps. FreshMaps is a premium service that NAVIGON adapted from their successful line of PNDs (personal navigation devices) in Europe, whereby for a fee, users can get the latest maps every three months for a period of at least two years. The introduction of this service into the app was planned prior to Garmin’s acquisition of NAVIGON.
Prior to the launch of FreshMaps, free map updates were provided on an irregular basis. In response to customer feedback, we will continue to deliver occasional free map updates in addition to the optional FreshMaps service, which provides more regular and frequent (quarterly) map updates. Note that FreshMaps also upgrades regional versions, such as MyRegion or USA, to the full North American map.

	UPDATE #2 (04-15-10) TRAFFIC LIVE IS NOT WORKING AGAIN! It seems to only work 11PM to 8AM California time. It's as if their servers only work on THEIR TIME. So my rating is back to ZERO unless they address this TRAFFIC LIVE PROBLEM. I PAID $25, is a fix too much to ask? UPDATE: (04-13-10) FOR ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH NAVIGON. POST YOUR QUESTIONS ON THEIR FACEBOOK WALL. I got a response in 30mins, then 15, then 10 mins and finally my issue was fixed (see UPDATE #2 Traffic still not fixed). I'm leaving the original post up. I will ask them about tolls & streets, etc next. I live in California. I purchased LIVE TRAFFIC about a month ago and it worked fine. I tried to use it this weekend on my first trip and it says "offline" in the red tab icon under LIVE OPTIONS. It says my SIM could be locked or the server could be down or that I'm abroad and have roaming off? IS THE SERVER DOWN? Can anyone check please. THANKS. Just post up yes it's working or no. IF I WAIT FOR NAVIGON TO RESPOND IPHONE 6.0 will be out by then! Poor customer service. 	There appears to be a lot of misinformation about this app. I have just purchased Navigon MobileNavigator North America (version 1.5.1) and am using it on a new 16 GB iPhone 3GS. The app runs flawlessly. Download (1.47 GB) and installation took about 25 minutes (cable internet). I had bought the TomTom car kit since reviews have stated that the iPhone’s GPS was not that strong. I have not yet tried it because the internal iPhone GPS was able to get me a signal in just a few seconds. At startup, the GPS accuracy was pretty inaccurate (160 meters), and this may account for reviews in which people complain about inaccuracy. However, if I waited another 10-20 seconds before moving, the GPS homed in on me and accuracy was no longer an issue. The maps are quite beautiful. The maps were accurate to at least about 2 years (which is better than the navigation system in my car). The program does have text to speech (actual street names are announced), and the voice quality was quite clear (not at all scratchy). The text to speech was far more than I had expected. Instead of “take the next right onto I-495 N” or “take exit 5, south” it would say “take the next right onto I-495 to Baltimore” and “take exit 5, Falls Road, then bear immediately to the left onto Falls Road south. I found this extra information to be very helpful. The voice prompts come at reasonable times so that following them was quite easy. At the first chance I had, I ignored the instructions and went right instead of left. Re-routing occurred automatically (and correctly) and within a second. I have no idea why so many reviewers expressed concern about “toll roads”; you have the ability to avoid, forbid or take toll roads. You can see the route that has been selected (route steps). The software does show the estimated time of arrival. You can see all sorts of POI (gas stations, ATMs, restaurants, etc. Contrary to a recent review, Google search is provided by the software. Perhaps the person who complained about its absence did not realize that the Google logo shown on the POI page was actually an icon (to be fair, it doesn’t look like the other icons on the page). Select it and you can then search Google for a destination. Select the destination and the software will route you to it. I purchased 3D panorama view. Download requires a wifi connection and took perhaps 30 minutes or more to complete and install. At least where I was driving in Maryland, it did not show hills or other terrain features. It’s main effect was to “tilt” the angle of the ground so that it shows the same map with more sky. Additionally, roads were shown with more features (divided highways appeared with more detail). It made startup a bit (3 seconds) slower, but did not affect speed of refreshing or updating the screen once under way. It did make the maps look prettier, although sometimes the iPhone’s screen resolution did not appear to be up to the demands of the software and some lines were rendered with a razor thin jagged look. All in all it is a very nice add-on. One can switch back and forth between panorama 3D, regular 3D and 2D; the switch takes less than a second.

	I really want to love this product. It's great to have a GPS in your phone. Unfortunately, I hate it. First, it is the only app that has managed to crash my iPhone completely, as in reboot the whole phone. One star off. Second, it is incredibly slow. It takes 20 sec to start up, thats ok. But when entering an address it can take up 30 sec just to react to my finger pressing on the screen and just entering a simple address might take over a minute. The best way to make this unit hang is to use the Ipod at the same time. Then it becomes so slow it will make you miss your turns. And no, I don't want to reinstall my whole iPhone to make this work. I have 10GB available on it, so there should be no fragmentation of the file... I have an iPhone 3G, maybe it is better on a 3GS but I doubt it.

	I'm surprised that the map & POI data are still out of date even with this update--not a good sign! Folks, a navigation app is only as good as the data it uses. Navigon obviously does not have a good road data! So, a lot of times, it will fail to take you to where you want to be (will drop you somewhere else) and good luck if you are a visitor to the area! Been quite disappointed with this App. The map as well as the data of 'points of interest' are quite old. For instance, the position of my street & address (which have been in existence for over 2 years) are incorrect. Moreover, the 'take me home' feature, for some reason, does not work as it wants me to enter a new address whenever I go to another city. I was hoping these issues were going to be fixeed in this version---but I was wrong. Route calculation is not great either. Compared to other navigation apps I have used (such as TomTom), this App does not match up. And it is quite pricy---I actually do not mind paying a high price for something that works well---but this just does not cut it for me---sorry! I have made a side by side comparison of Navigon, Tomtom and CoPilot---TomTom out performs them all. Moreover, Tomtom has a much better and more intuitive user interface---and it is cheaper than Navigon!

	This app is the worst. I can rarely get a GPS signal with this pos but google maps works just fine. The two times I used this app to navigate, it took me to the wrong place. I had to use google maps to get where I needed to go. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS APP!

	Update: If possible, Navigon has gotten slower and even more crash prone since I wrote the review below several months ago. Every time I enter an address, it quits. It is so frustrating that I just stopped trying to use it. See previous review, below: I've had and used Navigon since it first came out. At first it worked very well. Then it was updated and it absolutely stinks. It is painfully slow to load up and then after the first couple of turns in the road, it just quits. When you go back to it, it has lost the destination information, so you have to pull off the road and reload it. Then it takes forever to load the information in and after a mile or two of directing you, it quits. Whatever they put in that update rendered the app totally useless -- even dangerous, since you have to pull off the road to get it started up again. I wound up using Google maps and going without the turn by turn directions. That didn't fail once and loaded about ten times faster than Navigon. Clearly, they've taken an adequate piece of software and done something that renders it unsuable.

	I've tried to like this app, and I thought I'd give it another shot after it's recent update, but it is still buggy and not worth the money. For one thing, I got stuck in an extra half-an-hour worth of traffic this evening trying to get home after my first day at a new job. Navigon kept insisting that I take a toll road after I put on the option to FORBID toll roads. I didn't have any cash on me for toll, so I had to backtrack to get on an interstate. Not a fun thing to do on the Capital Beltway at rush hour. Another thing is it is waaaay too slow, especially on the 3G. I know the 3G is getting old, but if it is going to be declared as compatible, then it needs to have some serious work done to the memory usage. At least they seemed to fix the dropped audio from the previous version, but that was definitely not that high of a priority for me. Get the real issues fixed! Maybe I'll try out TomTom now.

	Then it stopped working entirely. It now says the GPS signal is not strong enough. It works about 5% of the time, but is not reliable. I deleted it and reinstalled per Apple suggestion. Now it wants to recharge me $9.99 for the 3-D view. How many times do I need to give them money for the same things? Plus, the app still doesn't work! Also, no tech support that I can find. Useless as it stands!

	I have two of the stand alone unit and think they are the best on the market. The iPhone version is very slow and crashes all the time I have reinstalled it and still have issues. I thought it was my phone. installed GPS Drive with turn by turn for 2.99 and WOW it is not the phone. I hope this will improve in the future. Right now I feel ripped off 89.99 iw way to much money for this.

	I have a base-level Garmin, but it is often in our other vehicle. I downloaded this to have when I needed a GPS on the spot and for traveling via airline. I was a bit nervous, as it is a huge app and I have a 3G (not a 3Gs). Although it took forever to load onto my iphone, it works like a charm!! I've used it quite a bit the last few days, and I love the ability to use the address book to select destinations. That fact alone makes me think this will not just supplement the Garmin, but largely replace it for most of my daily travels.

	It work fine when I first got till after last update now I have to restart often and it don't advoid toll road much more they need to fix it with some update or something I've reinstall mulipty times still I'm running into this problems... Update: 5/4/2010 same problem worked well in some area but in the city it just doesn't work; like in Richmond Virginia, Virginia beach, Virginia.. What make this bad is I'm getin good 3G signal and weather is very nice still problems.. To end this was a waste of my $79 I want a refund 

	Ok, so I was sold when my friend told me about. The biggest plus, was that it lists that it workds with the I Touch. Well I bought it (North American and Canada). $79 plus or minus. It worked one day. I downloaded the updates. Still could not find me in Arizona at all. Then went to El Paso, could not find me either. Now it can't locate me at all when I am home in the Chicagoland area. I am very disappointed. I gave up and went and purchased a Garmin for the car. Sure, that is not as handy as my I touch, but at least it works.
